Great Loop: Bobcaygeon

Image
The Town of Bobcaygeon had a music on the green event during our visit. We had excellent seats on our boat. Bobcaygeon was a perfect location to hang out, relax and get caught up on boat projects.  We spent two nights here.  The first night there was an event on the green.  It was just in front of our boat, so we didn't even have to move to enjoy the festivities.  The next day there was a town wide sidewalk sale.  The biggest draw was Bigley's shoe store.  All shoes were 40% off!  Unfortunately, we had each just purchased shoes in Kingston.  With all the walking we have been doing, we each wore out the shoes with which we had started the trip.  They needed to be replaced.  I did purchase some crew socks to replace ones that were worn out. We ate lunch at a good Mexican restaurant, had ice cream for dessert, and utilized the library's internet connection to check mail and publish some blog pages.  We were returned to the boat, I got caught up with several maintenance tasks

Great Loop: Lakefield Ontario

A large group of canoe voyagers spent the night with us at Lakefield Lock  Lakefield was our first stop after Peterborough.  We arrived in the late afternoon.  Once we were settled on the wall we walked into town with the crew of Elizabeth Marie to find a spot for dinner.  The Greek Restaurant looked good, and it was.  Fully satiated, we walked continued our walk around town.  The grocery store was nearby so Lakefield is a good spot to reprovision. We passed a house that had repurposed their canoe into a raised garden! We also found some nice Adirondack chairs set up along the sidewalk in the downtown area. Nice spot to relax or rest or just people watch!  A home decorated their front yard with a Gnome Garden. Yes, it was a Gnome home! And the Gnomes were home We returned to the boats in time for sunset The lock chamber also served as a reflection pond Amy Marie on the upstream lock wall. We departed early the next morning for the town of Bobcaygeon We followed a short section of canal

The crews of Pivot and Amy Marie at the top of the Peterborough Lock. We had a perfect day for our voyage from Hastings to Peterborough Ontario Light winds, calm seas,  and blue skies We travelled through a lock with the crew of Pivot We saw many lovely houses along the Trent River Another shoreside home Kids jumping from an abandoned railroad bridge What a great area in which to be a kid in the summertime! Amy Marie Does the Peterborough Lock Amy Marie traversed the Peterborough Lift Lock the day after our friends on Pivot.  I've separated the two experiences for continuity.  To fully understand this awesome experience, I encourage you to scroll through both sections.  The transit of this lock was clearly one of the highlights of the entire Loop adventure! As you depart Peterborough Harbor you must pass through Lock 20 to gain access to Lock 21, which is the Lift Lock.  From this point forward, the excitement starts to build.   On the day, we travelled with "Hazy L'il Th
