Great Loop: Ottawa
Ottawa is the capital city of Canada. Originally founded in 1826, it is now the 4th largest metropolitan Canadian city with a population of over 1.5 million people.
The Canadian Parliament building sits proudly on a hill
Other civic buildings occupy prominent waterfront locations.
The entrance to the Rideau Canal is adjacent to the Parliament building.
We are moving into the first of a staircase of eight locks. It takes a couple of hours to make the trip to the top.
The Chateau Laurier Hotel is on the left as you climb the flight of locks.
Looking back down gives a view towards the river.
History is kept alive with reenactments
Our friends on Dog House are about to begin their trip through the locks
At the top of the locks you are adjacent to the Canadian Senate and in the middle of the action.
At the top you can tie to the quai and spend the night.

We do like our green world and our history in Canada. Water was the first highway. Spending government funds on historical buildings and struck ire’s is a great part of the socialist society we have here. It creates wealth to simply maintain significant buildings. Beauty creates a kind state of mind.
