Great Loop: Titusville & Kennedy Space Center
Visiting Titusville is to feel the passion, dedication, and
commitment this area feels to the space program. It’s space heritage dates from July 1950,
when America’s first two stage rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral. This area was chosen as it was largely
undeveloped at the time.
The Mercury and Apollo programs really put Titusville and
the Cape on the map for most people. The
town experienced tremendous growth during this period. Today when you visit, it still has a 1960’s
vibe. The architecture, buildings,
houses, hotels are all 60’s originals.
Change the cars on the streets, and you would be transported back in
time.
The Kennedy Space Center continues to be very active with NASA,
the military, SpaceX, and Blue Origins all conducting launch operations. We
purchased tickets and visited the Space Center.
Their exhibits were well organized and presented. It was truly inspiring to see what a dedicated
team of individuals can accomplish. Huge
challenges had to be overcome to create the ability for man to survive in
space, visit the moon, and return safely to earth. Current projects are underway to return to
the moon and establish the ability to visit Mars. I can’t wait for our next chapter in space to
be written.
